THE SOUTH OF THE COUNTRY IS CURRENTLY BEING BATTERED BY HEAVY RAIN, THUNDER AND LIGHTNING AND - DESPITE THE DRIEST SPRING IN ALMOST SIX DECADES - THE UK COULD BE HIT BY A TORNADO TODAY
17:43, 21 May 2025Updated 17:43, 21 May 2025 The UK’s infamous unpredictable weather looks due to strike again with Brits being warned to brace for a possible tornado – which could batter
parts of the country today. The Met Office has said it is ‘not out of the question’ that the UK could see a funnel cloud and ‘maybe even a brief tornado’ across parts of the South East of
England – as well as thunder, lightning and hail. Southern England is currently being pummelled by heavy rain following the driest spring in almost six decades while the north of the country
is enjoying finer, sunnier weather. Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill said the south will see “further showery bursts to come as we go through the rest of today.” Despite the brutality
of the current rainfall in the south of the country, the UK has seen only 80.6mm of rain this spring, which is almost 20mm less than the record low for the full season of 100.7mm set in
1852. As a result, the Environment Agency has warned of a potential drought this summer. Although there’s likely to be an explosive end to today (Weds), the weather looks set to rally by
tomorrow (Thurs) and heading into the weekend, Brits should see some fine and dry conditions. Aside from a few scattered and lighter showers in the south west of England, the forecast
suggests largely dry weather with a “good amount of sunshine on offer”. Friday will be “mostly fine” but the weekend itself is set to be more wet and windy. The long range weather forecast
suggests that today's intensely stormy weather is set to pursue Brits into June. The forecast, which covers May 26 to June 4, warns of more "sunshine and blustery showers" to
come over the next two weeks. Article continues below It states: "Sunshine and blustery showers for much of the UK on Bank Holiday Monday, with the heaviest and most frequent showers in
the northwest. The southeast will likely end up driest and brightest." _FOR THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS AND STORIES FROM ACROSS THE GLOBE FROM THE DAILY STAR, SIGN UP FOR OUR NEWSLETTER
