APPRENTICE BRICKLAYER JAY SLATER, FROM OSWALDTWISTLE, LANCASHIRE, WAS FOUND DEAD IN A RAVINE ON THE SPANISH ISLAND OF TENERIFE LAST YEAR WITH THE CASE SPARKING A HUGE INVESTIGATION 11:13, 21
May 2025Updated 12:07, 21 May 2025 An inquest into the death of Jay Slater has learned that his two pals 'cannot be located'. The 19-year-old was tragically found dead in a ravine
in Rural Parc de Teno, in Tenerife, on July 15 last year. The apprentice bricklayer from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, disappeared in June after attending the NRG music festival in Playa de
las Americas, telling friends he was lost, thirsty and only had 1% battery left on his phone. At his inquest coroner Dr James Adeley said Jay's friends who were with him in Tenerife,
Lucy Law and Brad Hargreaves, "cannot be located". The coroner said: "We can't find them. They have denied who they are and we have had police looking for them but we
can't find them." She was the last person to speak to Jay before she disappeared. Last year Lucy paid tribute to him on Instagram with an emotional homage to the lad she calls
"one of a kind". Heartbroken, she posted: "Honestly lost for words." "Always the happiest and most smiley person in the room, you was one of a kind Jay and
you'll be missed more than you know. I'm sure you'll 'have your dancing shoes polished and ready' waiting for us all. We all love you buddy. Fly high." Article

'palm print', the inquest heard. Cheryl McGowan, Lancashire Constabulary's senior fingerprint expert, said she compared this with records held by the police and she is
confident that 'it's definitely a positive identification'. Pathologist Dr Richard Shepherd says Jay suffered several injuries but 'that to the head is by far the most
important one in understanding why Jay died'. He added: "The pattern of injuries is entirely consistent with a heavy fall from height." The teen had travelled to an Airbnb in
the remote Masca village in north-west Tenerife in the early hours of June 17, following an NRG event. He then left the property intending to walk to the apartment his friends were staying
in at Los Cristianos. The month-long search for Jay sparked major media attention from the UK. He was eventually found in the Juan Lopez ravine, north of Masca, close to where his phone last
pinged. A post-mortem examination concluded he died of traumatic head injuries, consistent with a fall from height. As Jay's body was returned to Lancashire for his funeral,
Lancashire's Senior Coroner Dr James Adeley opened an inquest. The final hearing is taking place today (May 21). Article continues below READ MORE ON OUR LIVE BLOG HERE.
