THE STATE PENSION AGE IS SET TO INCREASE FROM 66 TO 67 NEXT YEAR, WITH THE CHANGE SET TO AFFECT THOSE CURRENTLY IN THEIR 50S AND EARLY 60S WHO MAY HAVE TO WORK FOR LONGER AS A RESULT RICHARD
GUTTRIDGE Agenda Editor and ABIGAIL HUNT Assistant News Editor 13:56, 30 May 2025 The government has revealed the birth dates of those who won't see a penny of their state pension
until they hit 67, as part of sweeping changes to the pension age. From next year, the age at which you can start drawing your pension will begin to creep up from 66 to 67. This is set to
impact folks currently in their 50s and early 60s who might find themselves clocking in for a few more years than they'd bargained for. The DWP has confirmed that Brits born after March
6, 1961, (currently aged 64) won't be able to dip into their state pension pot until they're 67, reports Birmingham Live. Meanwhile, there are also tweaks on the horizon for those
born after April 1960 as the pension age gradually increases month by month. For instance, someone born between September and October 1960 will have to hold out until they're 66 and a
half before they can start collecting their pension. Article continues below A recent poll found that over one in five people couldn't correctly pinpoint when they'd start
receiving their state pension, suggesting many could be caught off guard by the upcoming changes. The pension age typically gets bumped up every couple of decades or so, reflecting longer
life expectancies and an ageing population. Some individuals in their 50s and early 60s may now need to crunch some numbers to see if they've got enough stashed away in savings or a
private pension to avoid having to work longer. This comes following whispers that the government might be mulling over fast-tracking the next increase to 68, bringing it forward from the
current planned date of 2044. However, they'd have to give at least a decade's notice to allow people to get their retirement plans in order. Article continues below Gurus at
Pension Bee have dished out the lowdown, revealing: "Currently both men and women can claim this from the age of 66, but for those born after April 5, 1960, it'll rise gradually
each month and by one month at a time, until it reaches 67 in April 2028. "It'll eventually rise to 68, affecting those born after April 1977."
