CHRIS PECKHAM HAS SAID THAT HIS POODLES WOULD "HAVE BOTH TRUMP AND PUTIN FOR BREAKFAST" AS THE QUESTION ARISES OF WHO IS MORE INTELLIGENT — VLADIMIR PUTIN, DONALD TRUMP OR A DOG

JAMES CAVEN 22:16, 21 Feb 2025Updated 22:19, 21 Feb 2025 Chris Packham and his fellow poodle lovers have hit out at comparisons between the dogs and Donald Trump. The TV god said that the

"much maligned" pooches are more "intelligent" than they’re sometimes portrayed. He joined dog owners and organisations in speaking out in their defence after we labelled

the Orange Manbaby as 'Putin's Poodle' on Thursday. It followed the US President’s controversial remarks in which he blamed Ukraine for starting the war with Russia.

Broadcasting legend Packham, 63, said his poodles Sid and Nancy would "have both Trump and Putin for breakfast". He said: "Their coiffured appearance is what’s always made

them an object of mockery." Article continues below The Springwatch star said animals "make better decisions" than the likes of Trump, who is providing a "daily

onslaught" of essentially "random madness". He told the Daily Star: "Animals don't have the luxury of mistake. "They will make decisions based on best-informed

advice. Life’s a knife edge for them. They can’t afford to just, like Trump, chuck out random ideas and see what settles into something that might work out. "I don’t think calling

Zelenskyy a dictator was well thought through. It’s not the act of a poodle, or any other animal. "You could argue that what intelligence they have they apply more rigorously,

necessarily rigorously, than Trump." He added: "Animals will do everything they can to avoid a fight. Animals will only ever fight as a last, absolute last, resort. The obvious

reason for that is, and this is the tragedy of every war we have, is that both sides are essentially losers. "You can’t fight a war where you remain unharmed. Putin thought it was going

to be over in three days. It’s three years. "Animals can’t afford that. They can’t afford to be injured. "Putin probably thought that he was the massive predator. He just picked

on the wrong prey." But he admitted he’s "glad" that "both of those monsters, basically are being caricatured in that way". He said: "What an age we live in.

"Someone’s got to hold them at their feet to the fire." The presenter added that a lot of leaders are "not being quite as accurate as they should be about them". He said

similar "poodle" comparisons were made between Tony Blair and George Bush, which he remembers "striking a nail into my heart". Packham added: "The metaphor’s

uncomfortable for us poodle owners." The Poodle Council’s chairman Diane Smith said: "It’s not fair, but it's not the first time it's been said. "There are many

people that have used that phrase. It’s a derogatory remark." A Dogs Trust spokesperson said: "Poodles, like all dogs, are unique individuals with their own qualities and capacity

to be highly intelligent. "Therefore, we feel that it is unfair to liken all poodles to any unsavoury character." Article continues below _FOR THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS AND STORIES
