cinemas thanks to producers overseeing a 4K restoration of his classic movie The Gold Rush The film will land in screens worldwide on June 26 - exactly 100 years to the day of its original

premiere at the Egyptian Theater in Los Angeles in 1925. London-born Chaplin worked his way up from workhouses to the circus to become a pioneer of movie making during the dawn of Hollywood.

His staggering comic timing, screen presence and ability to entertain during the era of silent flicks, was cemented by his creation of character The Tramp. The Gold Rush, deemed by many in

Hollywood as a masterpiece, was the fifth-highest-grossing silent film in cinema history, banking over a staggering £3.8m at the time. French sales, production and distribution company mk2

are masterminding a global rollout, which spans more that 500 screenings across more than 70 territories. Chaplin wrote, produced and directed The Gold Rush, which sees the Tramp fight to

find his fortune with other prospectors in the US. It comes as Brits have chosen the sexiest dead folk they would most like to date. A poll of 2,000 people found that among the top 10

included Cleopatra, the ruler of Egypt until 30BC, and author Charles Dickens. Those taking part in the poll were ask to pick three ‘historical figures’ they would most like to go on a date

with. They could choose anyone from anywhere in the world over any time period, with the only condition being that they had to be ‘famous’ and ‘no longer living’. Article continues below The

study by new dating app Finding The One broke down the votes - of which over 100 historical figures were chosen by the 2,000 taking part - into a final top 10 for men and for women. They

include Elvis, James Dean, William Shakespeare, Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and Joan of Arc. Charlie Chaplin came tenth for women. Among the ones who didn’t quite make the top 10 for

women included JFK, Mozart, Sigmund Freud and even Joseph Stalin and Winston Churchill.
