Man kidnapped and dismembered before body parts 'boiled in pot with potatoes'

A man has been kidnapped and dismembered before three people "cooked" his remains with potatoes and carrots. The alleged killers are set to stand trial on Monday accused of

murdering George Meichler in order to steal the cannabis he was growing. Mr Meichler was kidnapped, assaulted, decapitated and dismembered before being boiled and burnt in February 2023. The

victim lived as a recluse, without water or electricity, in a small stone house in Brasc the heart of a forest around 40km to the west of Albi, France. His daughter filed a missing

person's report after his disappearance which led to a police investigation. Restauranteur Philippe Schneider, 56, his partner Nathalie Caboubassy, 43, and their alleged accomplice Loup

Benrakia, 24, are set to stand trial in Rodez next week. They allegedly scattered his remains across France after committing the crime. Before the investigating judge, Schneider allegedly

admitted planning with Benrakia to kidnap Mr Meichler to steal cannabis he grew. It is claimed that he said: "Either we committed an offence or we ended up on the street." Article

continues below He admitted to killing the victim but claimed it was an accident. The two men entered his home with ropes, tape and gloves. They tied his feet and hands and wrapped tape

around his head. They later found out he died of "suffocation". Schneider wanted to make it look like the victim had disappeared so took his identity card, driving licence, bank

card and mobile phone. He sent messages to himself as well as the victim's father and daughter to make them believe he was alive. Mr Meichler was taken to Coupiac, where Schneider owned

land. The alleged ringleader waited two or three days, apparently to "respect the transmigration of the soul". He is then said to have cut up the body on his own using a knife and

butcher's sheet. Schneider then allegedly put the limbs in a large blue can and sprayed them with bleach before returning to Brasc with the remains of the victim. He boiled water in

two pots and cooked the remains with vegetables and herbs reportedly "so that the flesh would burn faster and for the smells". His accomplice Benrakia then lit two fires to burn Mr

Meichler's head, hands, feet and clothes. According to France3 Schneider’s lawyer, Luc Abratkiewicz, said: “They cut up the body, they cooked it in a mess tin, and then they burned the

rest. It's crude, but that's how it is. “Of course, there's the horror of imagining the body was cut up, cooked, burned, but then you have a burglary that goes wrong, a body

you don't know what to do with, and this completely crazy idea of wanting to get rid of it. “It's mainly about explaining the act, the motive, which is trivial, a few thousand

euros, and then you sink into the horror. “Philippe Schneider acknowledges his full responsibility and all the facts he is accused of. Philippe Schneider's version is that at the time

he lived a life of alcohol, drugs, and then this completely crazy idea of going to burgle his neighbor. He gags him. It goes badly, he dies. “He made a serious mistake. And afterward, he

continued to sink into absurdity and horror, because, indeed, the fact of having cut up this corpse is going to cost them dearly.” Article continues below Laurie Peytavin Stockmann, the
