HE FAILED TO ARRIVE AT A CAMPSITE IN THE MORVICH AREA. 14:10, 02 Jun 2025 Concerns have been raised after a lone hill walker was reported missing after setting off on an unmarked Highlands

trail regarded as the toughest long-distance walk in the UK. Bernard Trottet, 65, was taking on the Cape Wrath Trail alone. Although he is an experienced walker, it is said to be out of

character for him not to make contact with his family. His last known contact with others was on Tuesday, May 27, at the Corryhully Bothy in Glenfinnan. He was planning to walk north to

Kinloch Hourn and then on to a campsite in the Morvich area but failed to arrive. The Cape Wrath Trail runs for over 200 miles from Fort William to the UK's most north-westerly point.

Due to its challenging terrain, including rugged mountain landscapes and bogs, it is regarded as the most difficult long-distance walk in the UK. It is an unofficial and completely unmarked

route with some potentially dangerous river crossings, recommended for experienced long-distance backpackers. A search for the Swiss national is now underway, with Police Scotland assisted

by air support and mountain rescue teams. Article continues below Bernard is described as around 5ft 10ins tall, of medium build, with grey hair, and French-speaking. He is likely to be

wearing an orange Arc’teryx jacket, black walking trousers and a green baseball cap. He is carrying a light grey backpack with a front attachment and is using a light grey Zpacks tent. JOIN

it is unusual for him not to be in contact with his family, and concerns are growing for his welfare. “He is believed to be wearing a distinctive orange coat and we are asking walkers and

others out and about in the area to think back and get in touch if they remember seeing anyone that matches Bernard’s description. “If you have seen Bernard or know where he might be then

please get in touch.” Article continues below Anyone who can help is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting reference 2096 of Saturday, 31 May, 2025.
