THE POP UP SHOP WILL VISIT THE TOWN'S UNION STREET - ALL THE IDEA OF A CAUSEWAYHEAD MUSIC FANATIC WANTING TO SPREAD HIS LOVE FOR VINYL AND FINDING HIDDEN CLASSICS. 15:24, 21 May 2025

Collecting records has been something that Causewayhead based Norrie McCulloch has been passionate about since the early 80s when he was first finding the music of bands such as AC/DC, The

Smiths and Echo & The Bunnymen. This Saturday, May 24, from 10am-4pm, finds him bringing his monthly pop up record shop to the Masonic Hall at 2 Union Street, Bridge of Allan (FK9 4NS).

Those who head along can expect “a huge selection of excellent records of all genres” to dig through as well as many rare and collectible items alongside classics and loads of bargains.

Norrie moved to Stirling 18 years ago after securing a post with the local authority which saw him responsible for the arts and music provision within Youth Services. He left the local

authority in 2015 to return to self employment and focus on his own music and arts career. He had to rethink his whole career however after extensive hand surgery in late 2021 to remedy a

tendon problem that had made playing guitar, painting and teaching impossible. His lifelong love for vinyl records prompted him to set up ‘The Record Hide’ - Stirling’s first mobile pop-up

record shop. With the increased interest in vinyl records in recent years Norrie wanted to offer people fair and transparent prices and a good quality friendly service to those who have

records to sell. He said: “I travel to the customer so there is no need for them to lift boxes of heavy records and drive them anywhere. “Instead I’ll come to you, have a look through the

records you have and provide you with an offer. “Anyone with records to sell are also welcome to take them along to the pop up shop in Bridge of Allan if they wish or they can just get in

touch with me via the website for a chat.” The Record Hide have been hosting pop-up shops regularly now for two years and plan to keep them monthly and in Bridge of Allan for now but they

have also been looking for premises with the hopes to establish a more permanent base sometime in the near future. “We are always happy to hear from vinyl fans via our website who may be

looking for a certain record for their own collection be it some rare obscure and hard to find gem or just a nice clean copy of a classic pop record. “If we don’t have it already within our

extensive stock we will likely be able to help you find a copy.” There is already a well established crowd that comes to every Record Hide event including many locals and people from much

further afield. “Our last pop up shop coincided with Record Store Day,” said Norries, “and featured guest sellers and a DJ spot from Dave McGowan of legendary Scottish bands Teenage Fanclub

and Belle & Sebastian. “The event was our busiest yet and brought hundreds of vinyl lovers from areas such as Glasgow and Edinburgh through to Bridge of Allan for the day.” Article

continues below The Record Hide also offers their mobile pop up record shop for events such as festivals and community fairs. Anyone wishing to have a record stall at their event or just to

keep up to date with upcoming pop up shops can visit: www.therecordhide.co.uk
