2025High Court in Edinburgh(Image: Daily Record) A high risk rapist who perpetrated a catalogue of sexual and physical abuse over more than a decade was jailed for 10 years.


Sex offender John Clark, 30, repeatedly raped two women who were subjected to threats of violence.


‌ A judge told him at the High Court in Edinburgh: “You continue to deny your crimes and you show no insight into the effects of your behaviour.”


‌ Judge Thomas Welsh KC said: “You are assessed as a high risk of committing further sexual, physical and emotional harm.”

The judge ordered that Clark should be under supervision in the community for a further four year period when he will be on licence and can be returned to prison if he breaches its


conditions.


Article continues below Clark, formerly of Lime Grove, Craigshill, Livingston, in West Lothian, had denied a series of charges at an earlier trial but was found guilty of seven offences


including crimes of rape, assault and abusive behaviour.


He was a teenager when his offending began in 2010 but the abuse continued in his adult years up until 2022.


His first victim was also a teenager who was subjected to repeated assaults and rapes by him.

and hit her on the hand with a mallet during the course of physical abuse at his hands.


Clark made violent threats, ripped hair from head and bit her on the body. The offending occurred in Livingston and Pumpherston, in West Lothian.


A second victim was raped by him at addresses in Bathgate and Livingston. Clark also threatened her and her friends with violence.


‌ Defence counsel Jonathan Crowe told the court that Clark has no previous convictions and has a supportive family. He said he has a strong work ethic and was largely employed in the


construction industry.


Clark was placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely following his sentencing. The judge made non harassment orders prohibiting him from contacting or attempting to contact victims.
