Spain is poised to swelter under temperatures exceeding 34C as Brits plan their half-term holidays next week. Fresh weather data from WXCharts.com reveals large swathes of the country

basking in a mini heatwave, promising a sunny getaway for those seeking one. Next week, temperatures across the Iberian Peninsula are set to rise significantly, with Spanish weather agency

AEMET noting that such heat is typically experienced in July rather than May. The west coast of Portugal will witness temperatures well into the thirties throughout the day on May 28, with

coastal areas around 30C in the north and 34C in the south. In the north of the country, temperatures will be cooler but still in the mid-twenties as places like Bilbao and La Coruna dodge

the worst of the heat. Madrid will see temperatures of 27C, and similar conditions are anticipated on the country's east coast around cities such as Valencia and Murcia. The southern

part of the country will be the hottest, with popular destinations like Malaga and Seville experiencing uncomfortable and unseasonal highs of 34C, reports the Express. Regular holiday spots

in Spain's islands will be slightly cooler, with the BBC predicting that the Canary Islands will experience highs of 25C on May 28, before climbing to 26C for the rest of the week.

Meanwhile, the Balearic Islands will be slightly warmer, with highs of 28C expected next Wednesday and beyond. The weather is substantially higher than average temperatures for Spain in May,

with the mercury usually climbing to levels expected next week in the summer months. An average May temperature of 23C is a full 12C lower than the highs expected in parts of southern Spain

and Portugal across next week. The weather follows a period of unsettled conditions across Iberia, with rain, storms, and hail in various parts of the country over the last month. In March,

the country was on the receiving end of a record-breaking 22 days of rainfall, whilst last October, floods killed more than 200 people as one of the deadliest weather events in the

country's history saw streets turned into rivers and homes destroyed. The natural disaster led experts to warn of the dangers of climate change and the likelihood of extreme weather

events and unseasonable temperatures in the future if steps were not taken to limit the impact of human beings on the planet.
