Many parts of the UK are set for an abrupt end to recent warm weather with heavy rain forecasted to sweep the country from tonight. The Met Office has anticipated rain incoming from the

Atlantic Ocean, bringing a more than 600-mile-wide wet weather front to drench the nation, while gales could reach speeds of up to 60mph, particularly impacting coastal areas around Wales.

The forecast for today indicated a generally fine and dry conditions with agreeable warm spells, notwithstanding a few showers cropping up in parts of the northwest and some heavier

downpours in eastern England. Advance predictions said: "A band of cloud and rain will move east across the country, turning heavy at times." Residents should expect strengthening

winds with potential coastal gales in the north and west. Furthermore: "Rain will move across England during the morning, with blustery showers elsewhere," reports the Express.

Heavy rainfall, striking the backbone of Great Britain straight from Lerwick in Scotland's upper reaches to Cornwall's Lands End, is anticipated throughout Tuesday's early

hours. Certain areas, notably the north of England and the Midlands, may face intense fall rates, potentially up to 10mm per hour, forecasting a decidedly damp commencement to Tuesday for

millions. Unsettled weather is expected to dominate the remainder of the week, with showers and sunny spells alternating from Wednesday to Friday. According to the Met Office forecast:

"Changeable conditions will persist throughout the week, with showers and prolonged periods of rain. "It will be breezy with temperatures around the average for this time of year.

Cloudy skies will prevail, with occasional sunny spells." The rain will be a welcome relief for some, following the sunniest spring on record, as indicated by provisional Met Office

data. The UK has experienced 630 hours of sunshine from March 1 to May 27, surpassing the previous record set in 2020 by 4 hours, in records dating back to 1910. Met Office Scientist Emily

Carlisle said: "The UK has now, provisionally, recorded its sunniest spring on record, with still a few days of the season to go. "We all remember the exceptionally sunny spring of

2020, but that title has now been surpassed by the spring of 2025. Now, seven of the top ten sunniest springs on records for the UK since 1910, have occurred since the year 2000. "It

has indeed been an extremely sunny and dry spring for the majority, but with a few days left of the season and more unsettled weather this week, it's too early to say what will happen

with other records. "We will bring more updates as we have them this week, and will be releasing the full May and Spring 2025 statistics on Monday 2 June."
