A 'mini' children's care home could be built on shrubland in Nuneaton. That is if planning permission is granted. Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council has received a planning

application that seeks the go-ahead for the erection of four units for residential care for children (Use Class C2) with associated development comprising access, parking, landscaping and

support office. This is for what has been described as 'vacant shrubland' off Salisbury Drive. The proposal says it is a 'fresh approach' to developing the site. READ

18 years (approx.) of relevant planning history comprising of around ten planning applications for residential development. Some planning applications were approved and some refused.

"However, this planning application is a fresh approach to developing the site, it offers an appropriate form of development and of a scale and size that would be contextual for the

immediate area. "Urban Village Group, the applicant, is a development specialist with significant experience in delivering community led Healthcare projects with specific focus upon

social, economic and environmental responsibilities. Cumulus Care Services (children’s care provider) will be the end user of the proposed children’s care home. "They have extensive

experience in children’s care and have an experienced track record of providing 24-7 residential care provision of young, highly vulnerable children. As mentioned above, residential

development is focused as a small-scale children’s home that would be a safe, learning and welcoming environment for the young residents that are making a start in life. "The

development would transform an area of land that is overgrown and a potential hotspot for antisocial activity. Additionally, since the site backs onto properties and development, it would

provide better safety and security for those properties as they would no longer be exposed to empty derelict land." It adds that access to the site will be via an extension of Salisbury

Drive to the south of the site. The application is currently being considered by planning officers at the Town Hall. All of the plans and documents can be found on the council's

website by searching in the planning applications section for reference 040876.
