Birmingham airport issues strict new rules for anyone travelling with pets

Birmingham Airport has provided guidance for those looking to take pets into the terminal, as detailed on their revised 'At the Airport' FAQ page. The recently added

'Travelling with animals' section offers clarity for holidaymakers wishing to bring their four-legged companions along. The airport makes it clear that there are stringent

scheduled for travel via the airport will be granted access. Furthermore, the airport acknowledged its lack of an Animal Reception Centre due to not having the required licence for

unquarantined animals, reports Birmingham Live. As stated on their website: "Unfortunately Birmingham Airport does not have an Animal Reception Centre as we are not licensed to receive

unquarantined animals." On the 'Before you travel' page, travellers are advised to converse with their vets at least four months prior to departure when considering bringing

pets on holiday. The website reminds owners: "If you are organising pet travel, contact your vet at least four months before you go." Additionally, the FAQ section provides advice

for those intending to bring an animal into the UK, directing them to the government's 'Travel routes for pets' webpage for more comprehensive information regarding entry

routes and approved transport companies. The website guidance encourages individuals to verify their travel company's pet policies, and whether they will accept your animal, or even if

you're allowed to bring more than one along for the trip. The government site also recommends pet-owners to ascertain whether they will need any proof that their pet is "fit and

health to travel." It further stated that your animal would have to travel as cargo on a plane unless you have chartered a private plane, or you're travelling with a guide or

assistance dog. Those journeying via sea or the Eurotunnel are advised to check with the boat company, and are also informed that you can only bring a pet into Britain by a private boat

"if you're travelling from Ireland or Northern Ireland."
