A bid has been made to expand a HMO at a former Nuneaton factory. Planning permission has already been given the go-ahead for an old engineering building on Anker Street to become a HMO, a
House of Multiple Occupation. It has been approved that the building can be converted and made into two HMO clusters - one with for eight bedrooms and the other for a nine bedroom HMO at
ground and first floor. But, a new planning application has been submitted to add more bedrooms. The proposal explains that extra space has been found due to the removal of asbestos in the
roof. "As such, there is an opportunity to make use of the available volume in the roof space to form additional accommodation in an already established residential building," the
application explains. READ MORE: BROTHERS CHARGED WITH NUNEATON ATTEMPTED MURDER READ MORE: ALDI CONFIRMS ATHERSTONE DISTRIBUTION CLOSURE WITH STAFF BEING FORCED TO RELOCATE The new
application asks for the go-ahead for another 8 bedrooms on the second floor. As part of this is a rear dormer extension as well as four pitched roof dormers to the front elevation.
"Each unit surpasses the local min. space standards for houses in multiple occupation (HMOs) and provides much larger bedrooms than the HMO guidance recommends, with most bedrooms being
double the size of the minimum requirements and proportionate to the other rooms in the building," the application explains. "Outdoor garden amenity space is already available
through the current approved scheme, improving the facilities for the residents." It adds: "The intended residents are young working professionals who will contribute to the local
economy by utilizing the town centre." The plan is now being considered by officers at the Town Hall. The proposals can be looked at by visiting the council website and search in the
planning applications section for reference 041015. The target decision date is July 14.
