Show MeNo thanks, closeSee ourPrivacy NoticeA local district council has issued a warning after a dumped electrical item almost sparked a bin truck fire in Warwickshire. The incident, which happened on Thursday morning (29 May), was
shared on social media by Stratford on Avon District Council.
Thanks to quick-thinking bin men, who spotted flames in their truck, litter was dumped on a road allowing the fire to be isolated and a serious situation was quickly dealt with.
They soon learned the fire was caused by an electrical item, and the council has issued advise on how to ensure this kind of incident isn't repeated.

The post was captioned: "This morning our waste and recycling contractors Biffa have narrowly avoided a vehicle fire. Thanks to their swift action, the fire was spotted and nobody was
harmed.
The incident happened on Thursday (Image: Stratford District Council)"The fire was caused by an electrical item inside the wheelie bin. Please make sure to bag any household batteries and electrical items and place them on top or next to your bin before
collection."
The council also states on its website: "All metal is recyclable, but not all of it can be recycled in your red box. Household electrical and larger bulky items can be taken to Princes Drive
Recycling Centre in Leamington Spa or Cherry Orchard Recycling Centre in Kenilworth. Warwick District Council also offers a bulky waste collection service (charges apply). Please visit
www.warwickdc.gov.uk/wastecollections for more information."
