Coventry zizzi hit with one-star hygiene rating over 'food safety'

A hugely popular Coventry restaurant has been hit with a one-star hygiene rating by the Food Standards Agency. Zizzi on Broadgate was urged to make 'major improvements' during an

inspection in January. Zizzi, at Cathedral Lanes Shopping Centre on Broadgate, has received a 4.2-star rating from more than 1,110 people on Google. Customers have described the food as

'delicious,' yet the hygiene measures were found to be below par when they were visited by Coventry City Council. Inspectors visit hundreds of businesses in the city each year,

scoring them on hygiene, the management of food safety, and food handling. Other factors taken into consideration are cleanliness, pest control, and whether systems are in place to ensure

January 8 and found the hygiene measures in place were below the required standard. Managers were told that they needed to make 'major improvements.' Inspectors found that they

needed to make 'major improvements' to the management of food safety, according to Coventry City Council. Issues were also identified with hygienic food handling. Changes needed to

be made to the cooking, reheating, cooling, and storage of food served. Major issues were also found with the systems in place to ensure that food served is safe to eat, according to

Coventry City Council. Cleanliness at the city centre-based eatery was also found to be sub-par, with improvements said to be 'necessary.' Concerns were also raised about the

condition of the facilities and the building. Zizzi told CoventryLivethat receiving a one-star hygiene rating was 'very concerning.' Staff are working with Coventry City Council to

make the necessary changes and said they take food safety 'incredibly seriously.' A spokesman for Zizzi said: “We take food safety incredibly seriously at Zizzi, so we were very

concerned to receive the recent 1-star rating. Our Coventry restaurant was previously awarded a 5-star rating from the local Environmental Health Officer (EHO) and recently passed our own

rigorous external safety audit. “We are already working closely with our established restaurant team and Coventry City Council to fully understand their concerns and make any necessary
