A Coventry eatery has been hit with a one-star hygiene rating by the Food Standards Agency. Bosses at Fat Cat were told they needed to make 'major improvements.' Fat Cat, on Beake

Avenue, has received a 4.3-star rating on Google. Customers have described the food as 'lovely,' yet the hygiene measures were found to be below par when Coventry City Council

visited in February. Inspectors visit hundreds of businesses in the city each year, scoring them on hygiene, the management of food safety, and food handling. Other factors taken into

consideration are cleanliness, pest control, and whether systems are in place to ensure good food hygiene is maintained. READ MORE: BUCKS COVENTRY CLOSING FOR GOOD IN JUST DAYS AFTER

'INCREDIBLE JOURNEY' Officials visited Fat Cat on February 13 this year and found that the hygiene measures were below the required standard. Bosses were told that they needed to

make 'major improvements.' Inspectors found that the city-based business needed to make improvements to the management of food safety, Coventry City Council said. Concerns were

also raised about hygienic food handling. Areas highlighted for improvement included the cooking, reheating, cooling, and storage of food served. Issues were also found with the systems in

place to ensure that food served is safe to eat, according to Coventry City Council. Cleanliness at the city-based eatery was also found to be below standard, with improvements said to be

'necessary.' Issues were also found with the condition of the facilities and the building. A spokesman for Coventry City Council said: “We are responsible for the inspection of all

food businesses located within Coventry. Based on the standards of food hygiene found during the inspection on February 13, Fat Cat received a food hygiene rating of 1. “We have continued

to work with the business to ensure that food safety laws are met, improvements are made, and the outlet is safe. Improvements made post-inspection do not automatically alter the food

hygiene rating score, however Fat Cat has the opportunity to apply for a re-rating. Alternatively, the rating will be reviewed and updated at the next planned inspection.” SIGN UP FOR OUR
