to do is to leave yourself or your loved ones in a mess. Sit down with your partner, choose a time when you have no distractions, and listen respectfully to each other’s point of view. Ask

open questions in order to keep the heat out of it and, if possible, write it all down so that there is a record of your conversations. In this way, you will avoid confusion and upset

further down the line. If it becomes overwhelming, halt the discussion and resume it another time. This is even more important when you live in a blended family, with children from different

main centre, should you no longer want or be able to drive one day? * Is there a regular train service? * Is there a supermarket within a short distance? * Could you organise a food delivery

if necessary? * Will your property be easy to maintain and affordable in older age? * Would you be able to adapt it if required? * Do properties sell quickly in your area? DEVELOP A SOCIAL

CIRCLE NOW You should also try to avoid isolating yourself. Wherever you live, do not just rely on your partner for company. As we age, it is vitally important that we build a social circle.

It does not have to be a large one, but enough people you can trust to help you out, and for whom you could offer the same support. This will give you a feeling of security and inclusion –
