YOU CAN SHARE THE COST OF SPOTIFY, DISNEY+, CANAL+ AND MANY MORE PLATFORMS BETWEEN FRIENDS THANKS TO THE SERVICE OFFERED BY THIS FRENCH START-UP A website developed in France is aiming to

help reduce the cost of multiple entertainment subscriptions by allowing them to be shared with friends or strangers. You could get access to Spotify from €3.15, Disney+ from €2.32, and

Canal+ from €8.23 per month. In total, there are 120 services in 10 categories, including online newspapers and VPNs. READ MORE: FRENCH TV VIEWING FIGURES DECLINE, THREATENING TRADITIONAL

CHANNELS Spliiit, created in 2019, claims to use a ‘carpooling philosophy’, allowing users to offer out remaining profiles or accounts as they would spare seats in their car. There is a

private option, where you share the subscription with people you know, and a public option which allows you to find strangers to share with. Conversely, you can also search for people who

have subscriptions to offer and request to join them. If you join a subscription, Spliiit takes a 5% commission, plus 35 cents each month. Those offering out their subscription pay a 25%

fee, up to €1 for each new co-subscriber, but only for the first month. LEGALITIES Spliiit claims the practice is perfectly legal and “does not infringe copyright nor does it violate the

contractual terms of the platforms”. However, it is worth verifying this yourself. The Spotify Premium Family membership, for example, offers access for up to five additional accounts, but

these must belong to family members living under the same roof. Many platforms allow individual accounts to be linked under one subscription. We would not recommend using the service for

platforms which require users to share a single password. For other services, Spliiit could be a practical way to save money, particularly when used among friends. RELATED ARTICLES PARAMOUNT
