Storm alerts for more than half of france as unsettled weather returns

THE NORTH IS SET TO SEE STORMS AND HEAVY RAIN France is expected to face stormy conditions on Tuesday (July 4) with weather warnings in place for nearly all of the northern half of the

country. In total 57 departments - all in the north aside from Aude, Ariège, Pyrénées-Orientales and Haute-Garonne - are facing tier-two warnings for storms. The rest of the south, however,

is set for clear, blue skies. Temperatures of up to 30C are expected in Marseille. The warnings come into force from midday, with the weather expected to be at its worst on Tuesday evening.

The storm is expected to move north overnight, however, with only 24 departments – mostly around Paris and the far north of the country – facing warnings on Wednesday (July 5). Despite that,

Météo France is predicting a fresh storm to move in from the Atlantic over the weekend, which will affect almost all of the country. ALMOST 60 DEPARTMENTS CAUTIONED The last couple of

months in France have been characterised by spells of stormy, unsettled weather. In mid-June, Paris and Toulouse – two cities affected by today’s warnings – FACED CHAOTIC SCENES as storms

caused flooding in both cities. Then, less than two weeks ago, Paris and the south-west of France were BATTERED WITH INTENSE RAIN AND HAILSTONES, with a number of departments facing the

second-highest warning for stormy weather. More recently, however, France’s weather has been more settled, but that is set to change. Whilst most of the south is spared from the poor

weather, every department in the north (except Finistère) is expecting storms this evening. As the storm moves in, this information is subject to change – you can keep up to date with Météo

France’s warnings HERE. The warnings are currently at level two (out of four), meaning residents should be cautious when outside and keep informed about the local weather situation. Despite

the rainfall, temperatures are still set to hover around 20C in most of the departments affected, although in the south where storms are present, it will be closer to 25C. Looking ahead

towards the end of the week, the weather should pacify on Thursday, but a fresh storm rolling in from the Atlantic is predicted on Friday, which will cause rainfall across the country.
