WET, OVERCAST AND BLUSTERY WEATHER IS FORECAST FOR MOST OF THE COUNTRY Snow will fall at higher altitudes and even in some low-lying areas this week as temperatures drop, with wet, overcast

and blustery weather forecast for most of the country. Many areas will see temperatures fall by several degrees this week as a cold front from the British Isles descends over France. While

snow is forecast for the week, French state weather service Météo France is as yet uncertain of how much will fall and where. "An unsettled and cold period is expected over the country

that may bring snow at low altitude or even on the plains," says Météo France.  "The exact location of this phenomenon remains to be determined." Nonetheless, La Chaine Météo,

owned by newspaper Le Figaro, says there is a 100% chance of snow in many Alpine areas. The snowfall in low-lying areas is not expected to result in extensive snow on the ground, which is

unlikely to be cold enough for it to stick. On Monday (November 18), thick clouds will cover the northern half of the country, with showers likely in some areas, particularly the

Hauts-de-France region.  Highs of 18C are expected in Nice, Alpes-Maritimes On Tuesday, the settled weather will give way to rain and gales as the cold front arrives. Winds of 30 to 80km/h

are forecast, starting in the north of France in the morning, before covering the whole country by evening. The gales will bring showers to most of the country.  Highs of 18C are expected in

Perpignan, Pyrénées-Orientales. On Wednesday, the skies will be clearer in most areas, however markedly colder weather will arrive. Temperatures will drop by several degrees. The gales are

forecast to continue, albeit with less intensity in most areas. Snow is likely at high and medium altitudes in the morning and evening, with light snow possible in some low-lying areas

including Haute-Marne. Highs of 16C are expected in Nice, Alpes-Maritimes. On Thursday, the weather will be particularly bad as rain returns to most of the country and the cold remains. Snow

is likely at high and medium altitudes, as well as several low-lying areas. Freezing temperatures are forecast in many places in the evening. Highs of 16C are expected in Biarritz,

Pyrénées-Atlantiques. On Friday, the wet weather will subside in many areas, however the cold will intensify. Snow is likely at high and medium altitudes. Highs of 12C are expected in Nice,

Alpes-Maritimes and Ajaccio, Corsica.
