Daley and rower Helen Glover, who have been picked as the team’s flagbearers – they will carry the flag during a flotilla procession which will make its way down the Seine on Friday for the
opening of the games. In a speech, Dame Menna welcomed the athletes as fellow “ambassadors” for the UK, saying “you represent the best of the UK on the international scene”. She added:
“Let’s carry with us the Olympic ideals of excellence, friendship and respect, and let’s be inspired by the magnificent examples of dedication and triumph which will be unfolding in the
