CONSUMER GROUP CLAIMS ‘INTOLERABLE GAP’ BETWEEN PRESENTATION AND REALITY A CONSUMER group is suing Orange and SFR over their 4G coverage claims. UFC-Que Choisir said there was an
“intolerable gap” between the claims of the two companies and what they were actually providing in terms of network cover. The group took readings for the companies’ new 4G (high-speed
mobile) provision around Paris – where both companies claim 100% coverage. However, the tests showed Orange gave only 79.4% coverage of the capital while SFR was just 75%. Only Bouygues
Telecom stood up to scrutiny, with 99.4% UFC-Que Choisir is suing Orange and SFR for fraudulent commercial practices. An SFR spokesman said coverage would be 100% by the end of the year and
that the public could see the extent of its network via a map on its site. Orange criticised the results of the study – which showed a black hole of coverage in its network in the west of
the city - that the operator claimed did not exist. Photo Yuri Arcurs - Fotolia.com
