PEOPLE CAN BENEFIT FROM 12 CONSULTATIONS WITHOUT REQUIRING A REFERRAL FROM THEIR GP People covered under France’s state healthcare system can now attend 12 reimbursed psychological support

sessions per year, without requiring a doctor’s referral. The changes are part of an overhaul of the Mon soutien psy (my psychological support) system, which was first introduced in April

2022, before an expansion was announced in June 2024 under then-Prime Minister Gabriel Attal. The scheme’s evolution was published in a decree dated Tuesday May 13 and officially came into

force last Friday (May 16) - although in practice, these improvements have been implemented since January 2025.  Prior to this date eight appointments per year were available under the

official referral from a medical professional was also required to book a session, which is no longer the case.  Some eligibility conditions have remained in place. For example, appointments

must be led by an officially-approved psychologist (find a list here).  Patients must also be aged three or over and have certain “light to moderate” psychological issues, such as anxiety

or depressive disorders. It is not intended for those requiring specialist advice.  MON SOUTIEN PSY COST BREAKDOWN Appointment costs are covered by state insurer Assurance Maladie (60%) and

by top-up mutuelle health insurance (40%). Those without top-up insurance are responsible for paying the remaining amount. Each session should cost no more than €50, however some people

consider this price to be insufficient as many psychologists typically set higher rates. People covered by the Alsace-Moselle health insurance benefit from an additional 30% of the cost

being reimbursed by this regional scheme, alongside the 60% Assurance Maladie cover. This leaves the remaining 10% to be paid by mutuelle insurance.  Read also: Health insurance in France:

it is preparing to simplify the process, allowing use of the Carte Vitale with partner psychologists. The Santé psy étudiants scheme means that students are fully covered, with no advance

payment, no matter whether or not they have top up health insurance. Other situations in which appointment costs are fully reimbursed include: those over five-months pregnant, or those
