Low-cost supermarket set to open three new stores in France

One of France’s most recent low-cost supermarket chains is set to open new stores across the country in the coming weeks.

Three new Toujust outlets will open their doors, meaning the brand will soon have five in France.

The store promises prices 10% lower than its competitors, offsetting the cheaper produce via partnership agreements with suppliers.

Founder of the chain, Fabrice Gerber, who previously worked for Leclerc and Système U, wants to see 300 Toujust stores across France by 2030.

The brand’s strategy is to open stores “where conventional retailers won't go,” says its founder.

Unlike other supermarket chains that focus on regional areas, the brand is looking to expand all across France.

Prices are kept low via agreements with suppliers, who sign three-year partnership deals with the supermarket.

Currently, 160 suppliers have signed up to work with Toujust, but Mr Gerber wants to see that number reach 400 in the next 18 months.

Although 25 stores are set to be opened by the end of the year, the launch of the supermarket saw some setbacks, thanks to supply chain issues affecting around 60% of the products on offer.

Future plans for the supermarket include international expansion into Switzerland and Spain.
