French cancer hospital named fourth best in world by american magazine

IT POSITIONS THE HOSPITAL AS A WORLD LEADER IN ONCOLOGY BOTH IN TERMS OF RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS A hospital in the suburbs of Paris has been ranked first in France and fourth

in the world of hospitals specialising in oncology. The ranking was established by the American magazine ‘Newsweek’ and global research firm Statista, and is based on the results of an

online survey of tens of thousands of leading healthcare experts, The Gustave Roussy Institute was first opened in 1980, and opened its first research building in 1981. It is now a

specialist hospital for cancer patients and research, and has over 3,000 doctors, nurses and research staff working within. "First in France, first in Europe and fourth in the world, we

are extremely proud that Gustave Roussy is the French champion of oncology on the international stage,” said Professor Fabrice Barlesi, director of the hospital. “Our recurrent presence in

the Top 5 in [the most recent rankings] is the fruit of the investment and efforts of all the Institute's professionals, mobilised to offer the very best in innovation to cure cancer in

the 21st century.” The achievement was revealed on Newsweek’s rankings of the ‘World’s Best Specialised Hospitals’. WHAT DOES THE TEAM THERE DO? The Gustave Roussy hospital is a pioneer in

surgery, radiotherapy, immunotherapy and precision medicine. It is based in Villejuif, a suburb just south of Paris. In France, the Institute boasts the largest number of oncology

researchers on the prestigious “highly cited researchers” list by Clarivate. Newsweek’s ranking also draws on quality indicators as expressed by patients of the hospitals in question, which

the Gustave Roussy Institute scored highly in. Alongside cancer treatment facilities, the hospital has a number of research buildings and staff which study various forms of cancer. Future

plans for the hospital include developing the largest European campus dedicated to cancer with a focus on personalised prevention, rapid cancer diagnosis and a new research centre. TOP 5

RANKINGS For 2024, Gustave Roussy ranked fourth among the world’s best cancer hospitals, but the top of the list was dominated by facilities in the US. For Oncology, first place went to MD

Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Following top place were the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre in New York and Mayo Clinic in Rochester, (New York state), while just behind
