Copper internet connection ended in 162 French communes It is being replaced by fibre connections, however some people in rural France do not want this or live in properties where it is not

feasible.  Satellite internet is a possible alternative and is becoming increasingly popular in France, particularly through Elon Musk’s ‘Starlink’ service, which targets users in rural

areas as well as certain businesses. Read more: Air France partners with Elon Musk’s Starlink to offer high-speed WiFi ORANGE SATELLITE Starlink is not the only company to provide satellite

internet however, as Orange also offers the service.  Launched in 2023, the ‘Satellite Orange’ package offers high-speed WiFi connection in rural areas across the country.  The company

promises internet speeds of 200 mbps/second and an upload speed of 15 mbps/second, classified as sufficiently high-speed by the government.  It also allows calls via satellite, with users

keeping their current number. Subscriptions cost €49.99 per month and also require a satellite kit which can be rented for an additional €8 per month or purchased outright for €299. SUBSIDY

MAY COVER EQUIPMENT  The cost of purchasing and installing this equipment may be covered by the Cohésion Numérique des Territoires government scheme, depending on your situation.  The scheme

aims for all people in France to benefit from reliable, high speed internet by the end of 2025. Those who live in an area ineligible for fibre (you can search if your address is included

via this government tool here) can receive up to €300, fully covering the cost of installation.  In addition those who live in these areas and receive certain benefits can receive up to

€600.  Full details can be found on the official website for the scheme.  Read more: How to save money on internet access in France
