GAIA IS SET TO BE THE SECOND LUKE JERRAM ARTWORK TO BE DISPLAYED IN HEXHAM ABBEY WHEN IT ARRIVES THIS AUTUMN 09:14, 03 Jun 2025 One of Northumberland's oldest sacred buildings will be

transformed this autumn as a giant earth hangs from its ancient arches. Hexham Abbey will host _Gaia_ by artist Luke Jerram, which depicts the earth using NASA imagery of its surface. The

six-metre spherical sculpture will slowly revolve in mid-air, presenting a dazzling view of our planet as it appears from space. Visitors to Hexham Abbey will be familiar with Jerram's

work, with _Museum of the Moon_ being displayed in the same building in October 2023 and drawing 30,000 visitors in. Rev'd Canon David Glover, rector of Hexham, said: "This is a

truly remarkable creation with the power to move people deeply. Mesmerising and searingly beautiful as it is, it is not 'only' art – it can have an unforgettable, spellbinding

effect on those who see it. OUR NORTHUMBERLAND LIVE NEWSLETTER IS FREE. YOU CAN SIGN UP TO RECEIVE IT HERE. IT WILL KEEP YOU UP TO DATE WITH ALL THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS AND TOP STORIES FROM

We're privileged to welcome residents and visitors to Hexham to experience this magnificent artwork in this sublime setting." Luke Jerram said he was thrilled to return to

Northumberland with _Gaia_, saying: "After the huge interest in _Museum of the Moon_, I hope this new installation becomes another memorable cultural event across the region. There is

something deeply magical about bringing our world into historic spaces like this." CHRONICLELIVE HAS CREATED A DEDICATED WHATSAPP COMMUNITY FOR NORTHUMBERLAND NEWS. YOU CAN JOIN THIS

Sunday, November 16, 2025.
