A POPULAR SEASIDE TOWN NOT FAR FROM NEWCASTLE IS FLYING THE FLAG FOR THE NORTH EAST ON A NEW LIST OF THE BEST IN THE UK 10:34, 02 Jun 2025Updated 12:51, 02 Jun 2025 To quote a very famous

song as a nation 'we do like to be beside the seaside' and a hip and very cool town by the coast near Newcastle is the sole representative for the North East on a list of the best

in the UK. And it's a place that is no stranger to national and international acclaim. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, we at CHRONICLELIVE love to write about all the

amazing places we have in the region and we aren't the only ones, as this week experts at travel communication brand Holifly have put Tynemouth in their top 10 of the most picturesque

places by the sea in the whole country. And, while of course we're pleased that Tynemouth has had another slice of national recognition, we do have two gripes: 1. It should be higher

than 10th and 2. There should be more places from the North East on the list. It's little surprise that Tynemouth is the place to fly the flag for the North East in Holifly's

rankings, given that it's previously been given the title of the UK's 'coolest' seaside town by Time Out magazine and also been championed by writers at world renowned

brand Conde Nast Traveller. Just last week it was one of just five places in the UK to make the grade for places that swimmers should be visiting this summer; thanks to the great water

quality of both of its beaches - King Edward's Bay and Longsands. Putting it on their list, Holifly gave Tynemouth, a big favourite of Newcastle United stars Dan Burn and Sandro Tonali,

a rave review. Giving a rundown of the best things to do in the thriving town, they write: 'When in Tynemouth, one of the best things to do is to visit the Tynemouth Priory and Castle.

East's most loved seafood restaurants on the beach, Riley's Fish Shack.' Last week, Tynemouth was rated the fourth best seaside town in the UK by Which?!, in a new list that

was topped by Bamburgh for the fifth year in a row. Tynemouth made the top five having received an overall destination score of 81% and being one of only a few places in the new rankings to

get the full five star score for its beaches.
