British tourists fearful and 'rushing to leave' spain following major shooting

in the popular tourist district of Costa Del Sol in Spain has sent ripples through tourists and locals alike. Spanish detectives said investigations were ongoing into one of the number of

shootings to take place in the region. It is believed that the two victims, named as Eddie Lyons and Ross Monaghan, were major players in Glasgow's Lyons crime clan. Police Scotland

said it had "nothing further to add at this time" over whether the double shooting in Spain was linked to criminal activities taking place on UK soil. It has been reported that

Ross Monaghan owned the Costa del Sol bar, bearing his name, where he was killed. The crime has led many British tourists and migrants to worry about the safety of the holiday hotspot,

reports the BBC. David Meddicks from Glasgow had left the bar with his wife a couple of hours before recalled "We went back to our hotel for food and later on at the reception of the

hotel, two wee Spanish women ran in, shouting "bang, bang, bang, bang." "We looked and we could see the police and all the blue lights. We had been thinking of going back down

for another drink and decided not to bother. So I'm quite glad I didn't." The shooting occurred in broad daylight, with members of the public nearby in plain view of the

below Another tourist, Robert Sorman from Bathgate, said: "You've heard of the Costa Del Crime but you never expect it to happen when you're here." British tourists

who'd been in Monaghans before the shooting described it as a friendly bar. The violence has led to a direct appeal from the mayor of Fuengirola following a meeting with officials,

including the commanders of the national and local police. She said, "We live in a world and at a time where crime knows no borders. "In places like the Costa del Sol, we're

seeing developments that, as they spread, inevitably affect us. We need much greater involvement from the state on this issue." The mayor added: "I intend to be relentless in

demanding action on this. It's a top priority for our community and our city." Article continues below The UK Foreign Office (FCDO) said it had not been contacted for consular

assistance in relation to the incident but would offer assistance if asked. It comes as the FCDO also issued updated advice to tourists in Turkey and Greece following a major Earthquake.
