Busy seaside town near newcastle loved by pop icon for 'best takeaways' street

A STREET IN A SEASIDE TOWN LESS THAN HALF AN HOUR'S DRIVE FROM NEWCASTLE HAS BEEN CHAMPIONED BY A POP ICON FOR ITS TAKEAWAYS 12:50, 20 May 2025Updated 13:22, 20 May 2025 If you love

nothing more than incorporating a top notch takeaway with any trip you make to the beach, you're in luck as there is one particular street in a seaside town not far from Newcastle that

has been singled out by a global pop icon for having the 'best takeaways' in the North East. Now, while she might be ever so slightly biased, given it's where she hails from,

ex Little Mix star Perrie Edwards has travelled the world both as a member of the Brit Award winning girl group and as a solo artist, but, as far as she is concerned, there really is no

place like home and she was quick to champion South Shields during an appearance on a new BBC TV show. Forget About Us singer Perrie was the first celebrity to feature on Alison

Hammond's brand new series Big Weekend, which sees the This Morning presenter spend time with some famous faces from the UK entertainment industry, meeting their loved ones, finding out

about their upbringing and visiting their home towns. And, while Perrie's episode started with the 31-year-old giving Alison a tour of the plush £3million Cheshire mansion she lives in

with footballer fiance Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, it didn't take long for Perrie to take Alison back to her roots in South Tyneside. The first calling point was to a house where Perrie

lived as a teenager and the place where Little Mix bonded and rehearsed before their journey to X Factor victory. And, as anyone who knows that's lived in Shields or even been there, no

trip to the town is complete without going to Ocean Road. A place that has been branded 'better than Manchester' and its famous Curry Mile, Ocean Road has an abundance of great

places to eat in or takeaway, including the original Colmans chippy. Delighted to be back on home turf, Perrie declared: "This is the street where the best takeaways are. Ocean Road is

where it's at." Article continues below The episode also saw Perrie and Alison go for a few drinks at The Sanddancer pub, just in time to see her dad Alexander Edwards perform,
