Eddie Howe unsurprisingly played Callum Wilson's post-match tears down but the Newcastle United forward has given us the clearest indication yet that he will be departing the Magpies
after five successful years. “Let’s wait and see,” Howe replied when asked about Wilson's teary, apparent farewell after a solo lap of honour. “We’re going to sit down and talk with his
representatives." Wilson departs with 49 goals and a wealth of supporters in this part of the world. His body has failed him on numerous occasions but the striker has always returned
with the same vigour and determination to continue finding the back of the net. Now, with a departure looking imminent as his contract ticks down, attention turns to the future. It now
appears clear the Magpies will target a new, central striker before the start of a new campaign. Wilson's departure leaves just Alexander Isak and William Osula as the two, senior
options to lead the line. Meanwhile, the jury remains out as to whether Sean Neave, Ben Parkinson and Garang Kuol are ready to make the jump to becoming regulars in and around the
first-team. With other priority positions being eyed, including a right-sided attacker and a new centre-back, there is a debate to be had over what type of forward Howe seeks to bring in
through the middle. Free agents such as Jonathan David and Dominic Calvert-Lewin will appeal on a financial basis. Meanwhile, some will want a top class addition signed to really rival Isak,
while also allowing him a much-needed rest from time to time. Others will no doubt be rooting for a younger addition, who can potentially be moulded into a future Isak successor further
down the line. NEWCASTLE BACK IN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE While all that is up in the air, one thing is for sure; Wilson's seemingly imminent exit means it is unquestionable that he is replaced
before the summer is out. Howe's attacking options have already been stretched this term and another campaign of limited spending in that area of the pitch could be catastrophic as
United fight on four fronts next term. As for signings, Howe admitted on Sunday: "The power and pull of the Champions League is huge. The excitement of people here but it's a
selling point for the club. We have to get the financials right and every aspect right. "When you haven't been active in the market for so long there's a danger you go over
the line and make the squad weaker. "There is a desire from the club to make the club stronger this summer."
