DAN BURN'S INCREDIBLE SEASON RESULTED IN A PLACE IN GEORDIE FOLKLORE, AND ENGLAND CAP AND A RETURN TO THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 18:00, 26 May 2025 After the season Dan Burn has had it is

little wonder that he is already dreaming about potentially facing Real Madrid or Barcelona. Burn has risen from a reliable defender for Newcastle following a £13million move from Brighton

& Hove Albion to the England squad in the space of three years. The lad from Blyth also managed to write himself into Geordie folklore with his towering header in the Carabao Cup final

and has ended up being one of Sky Sports' poster boys along the way after featuring in adverts for next season's eagerly anticipated coverage. With a broad smile, Burn is keen to

see what the Champions League draw in August will bring, with a trip to the Santiago Bernabéu a possibility. The 6ft 7in defender told Chronicle Live: "I want to play against the best

teams, so I'd love to play against Madrid, Barcelona. That's why you want to play Champions League football. It'll be exciting." Newcastle finished the season in fifth

place in the end despite going into the final two matches with a chance of second spot. And Burn feels that the 2025/26 campaign will bring just as much excitement. The centre-back said,

speaking after the 1-0 loss to Everton, said: "I don’t think we're far away from sort of challenging at the top. Article continues below "The gaffer has mentioned that we’ve

not strengthened the last few seasons so it'll probably be a big summer to add players and sort of keep it fresh. "It’s probably just going to be that change of mentality where we

really get that belief that we should be up there. "It would be great to have a good Champions League run and I'm sure that he would love to win another cup. I feel like now that

we've won that first cup, it’s sort of broke the seal a bit and now we feel like we can really do that again." Newcastle made it back to the Champions League thanks to Man

United's victory over Aston Villa on Sunday. Burn said: "We needed a little bit of luck. I cannot believe we’ve got a favour off Man Utd! I never thought that would happen, but

yeah great." On a weekend in which Newcastle made the Champions League and Sunderland stepped back into the Premier League, Burn could not hide his excitement at getting another crack

at a Tyne-Wear derby. The ex-Darlington man said: "It'll be good to even see Sunderland getting back to the Premier League. It's such a weird thing because I'm really

excited about it. "I shouldn't be, but those were the games when I was a kid. The derby days were the first fixtures I'd look for when they came out. "So I wouldn't

say that I'm happy for them coming up, but I am happy that we get the derbies back." Article continues below
