THE SUPERMARKET GIANT HAS ANNOUNCED IT WILL BE PHASING OUT THREE SERVICES IN STORES ACROSS THE UK "BY EARLY SUMMER" AS PART OF A BID TO DRIVE GROWTH 10:18, 28 May 2025

Sainsbury's has announced a substantial overhaul, revealing plans to gradually eliminate three key in-store offerings "by early summer" in a major overhaul. The supermarket

giant intends to close its existing patisserie, hot food, and pizza counters within the next few weeks, timing the closures with its annual financial report for the year ending 1 March 2025.

The decision aims to unlock valuable floor space, making way for an expanded array of fresh food options for shoppers. Despite phasing out these specific counters, Sainsbury’s reassures

customers that best-selling products will still be available within the store’s aisles. Furthermore, the chain is set to launch new "On the Go" sections come autumn, featuring a

selection of ready-to-eat hot foods, as reported by the Express. This strategic shift follows the earlier closure of all Sainsbury’s Cafes, which unfortunately led to the redundancy of 3,000

staff members, roughly 2% of their 148,000-strong workforce. The company views this transition as a necessary adaptation to reduce operating costs amidst a challenging economic atmosphere.

Expanding on their approach, Sainsbury's said: "In January, we announced a number of propositional changes to food services in our stores in order to drive growth and availability

at a reduced cost to serve, allowing us to create further space to offer more fresh food ranges.", reports Yorkshire Live. Sainsbury's has announced plans to fine-tune the

functioning of their shops. They declared: "By early Summer we will have closed patisserie, hot food and pizza counters and are making the most popular items available in aisles. We

have now closed all remaining Sainsbury's Cafés and we are converting our scratch bakeries to bake-off, driving improvements in quality, value and availability throughout the

day." WE HAVE A DEDICATED NEWSLETTER FOR CHRONICLELIVE’S MONEY-SAVING AND COST OF LIVING STORIES. IT’S FREE AND YOU CAN SIGN UP TO RECEIVE IT HERE. IT WILL KEEP YOU UP TO DATE WITH ALL

hubs with flexiserve hot food offerings, delivering an improved customer experience." Sainsbury's believes these changes will aid in meeting their target of a £1 billion savings in

overheads by March 2027 whilst enhancing their supermarket performance. Simon Roberts, Chief Executive of J Sainsbury plc, commented: "We've transformed our business over the past

four years. We have created a winning combination of value, quality and service that customers love, investing £1 billion in lowering our prices." Article continues below Furthermore,

he said, "More people are choosing Sainsbury's for their main grocery shop as a result, delivering our highest market share gains in more than a decade. We are committed, above all

else, to sustaining the strong competitive position we have built - consistently giving customers the great value they have come to expect from Sainsbury's - and we expect to continue

to outperform the market. "Our customer offer is the strongest it has ever been. We've expanded Aldi Price Match to more products than ever before in addition to offers on more

than 9,000 products with Nectar Prices. Customer satisfaction with product availability is at record levels and we're continuing to add more new, innovative products to our

ranges." He also mentioned: "Nectar is taking our ability to create personalised value and loyalty to the next level and our long-term contracts with farmers and suppliers

demonstrate our commitment to resilience and sustainability across the UK food system."
