SUPPORT HAS POURED IN AFTER A COLLISION AT THE LIVERPOOL FC CUP PARADE LEFT DOZENS INJURED AND ONE ARRESTED 14:16, 27 May 2025 Community leaders and public figures from all over the country

have offered their support to the city of Liverpool after a devastating car collision at a parade celebrating Liverpool FC's victory in the Premier League. Police confirmed that one man

is in custody, a total of 27 people were taken to the hospital in the aftermath, and 20 were treated at the scene, with four children among the injured. The incident occurred shortly after

6pm as the parade celebrations were just starting to wind down. The man arrested was quickly identified as a white 53-year-old from Liverpool, following misinformation about the identity of

the attacker online and on social media. LOCAL AUTHORITIES Community leaders have come together to show their support for the loyal Liverpool fans who were involved in the incident and who

were injured. Leader of Liverpool City Council, Liam Robinson, said his "thoughts and prayers" were with the injured, adding that "there were literally months of planning for

this event here, particularly involving the club and the emergency services." He added: "I think the police have had to do a really difficult job in very, very difficult

circumstances, but I think they've done it really, really professionally. We fully support the approach that the police have taken in giving the right levels of information that they

can at the right time." Speaking at a press conference, Robinson urged people not to share "horrifying footage of the incident on social media – please if you have information,

forward it to Merseyside Police to help them with their investigation. Liverpool is a city that has a proud history of coming together and supporting each other during challenging times.

I've no doubt that will again be the case over the coming days and weeks." Metro mayor of the Liverpool City Region, Steve Rotheram, said the "big question" was how the

incident was able to happen, but urged people to look to emergency services for answers, not social media. He said: "If you have a look at my timeline there was somebody very quickly

saying 'why are you lying? There's been another incident in another part of the city', which obviously wasn't true." Rotherham also said: "Our hearts go out to

all of those affected, especially those who have been injured. Thank you, as ever, to the first responders for their professionalism and swift action. This is a difficult day for our city

region, but we stand together." POLITICIANS Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, said the whole country "stands with Liverpool" following the incident yesterday evening. Sir Keir

said: "Scenes of joy turned to utter horror and devastation, and my thoughts and the thoughts of the whole country are with all of those that are affected, those injured, which of

course includes children, their families, their friends, the whole community, Liverpool fans everywhere. "Liverpool stands together, and the whole country stands with Liverpool.

I'd like to thank the first responders who did a fantastic job last night and continue to do so. There's now an ongoing investigation. I'm being kept updated, talking

frequently to Mayor Steve Rotheram. But as I say, my thoughts and the thoughts of the whole country will be with everybody in Liverpool today." Speaking to the media at the scene,

Liverpool Riverside MP Kim Johnson said the mood in Liverpool was one of "shock" and "incredulity" after a "fabulous weekend of celebration". She said,

"Everything was going so well. This was almost the end of the parade. The city council and emergency services have worked so hard to safeguard people coming to the victory parade. For

this to happen the way it did, it's shocking." Ian Byrne, MP for Liverpool West Derby, said he was "absolutely heartbroken" after a car ploughed into a crowd during

Liverpool's Premier League victory parade. He wrote on X: "Absolutely heartbroken by the scenes in town, after what should have been the best of days. My love and thoughts are with

all affected." LIVERPOOL FC Figures from Liverpool FC who had been celebrating their cup win when the incident occurred, have spoken out on the incident, offering their support for the

fans who had been affected. Liverpool FC chief executive Billy Hogan thanked the club's supporters who "helped each other" after a car drove through fans celebrating in the

city on Monday. He said: "On behalf of all of us here at Liverpool Football Club, I would like to extend our heartfelt thoughts to all those who've been affected by this appalling

incident on Water Street yesterday evening. This weekend was one of celebration, emotion and joy spread across the city in our entire fanbase, and it ended in unimaginable scenes of distress

with this appalling incident. "I'd like to pay tribute to our emergency services and partner agencies – Merseyside Police, North West and St John Ambulance Services, and

Merseyside Fire and Rescue – who dealt with the incident, and now our hospital staff across the city who are dealing with those who are injured, including tragically four children. I would

also like to thank our supporters who witnessed this event and helped each other where they could. Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who attended the Premier League title parade in

Liverpool on Monday, said in a post on Instagram: "My family and I are shocked and devastated. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who are injured and affected. You'll

never walk alone." Liverpool FC captain Virgil van Dijk said he was "praying for a speedy recovery" for all those injured in the crash following the club's title parade.

The Dutch defender posted on Instagram: "My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected. Praying for a speedy recovery for everyone who suffered injuries. We are all with you."

EMERGENCY SERVICES Merseyside Police hosted a news conference yesterday evening, and released a statement urging the public "not to speculate on the circumstances surrounding

tonight's incident on Water Street in Liverpool city centre." "We can confirm the man arrested is a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area. Extensive enquiries

are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision. We would ask people not to share distressing content online but to send the footage or information directly to us

@MerPolCC or pass on information by calling 101 quoting log 784." Article continues below Dave Kitchin, of North West Ambulance Service, said: "This is indeed an appalling

incident, and we understand that people will be deeply upset. The people of Liverpool have shown many times before that you are a strong community and you support one another. All of us at

North West Ambulance Service share with you the frustration that this wonderful day has ended like this, and we hope that those who have been injured make a speedy recovery." Mr Kitchin

said a paramedic on a bicycle was struck by the car but not injured, and added that some patients had self-presented at local hospitals.
