Yob who bottled bouncer after being kicked out of bar found hiding under bed

LIAM FACEY, 25, HAS BEEN JAILED FOR THE ATTACK EARLIER THIS YEAR IN SUNDERLAND 20:30, 30 May 2025 A thug who bottled a doorman outside a Sunderland nightspot has been jailed. Liam Facey, 25,

was at The Beehive bar in Sunderland with a group of friends in January this year when they were asked to leave. Newcastle Crown Court heard the group were told by a doorman they could not

take their drinks outside. Prosecutor Rachel Butt said the defendant and his friends "responded with hostility" and refused to hand over their drinks. Ms Butt said: "[The

victim] said he was pushed on the shoulder by a male member of the group, not the defendant. But the defendant then ran towards the victim, who had his back turned, and smashed a glass

bottle onto his neck. "This resulted in injuries to the ear and neck area." The victim attended Sunderland Royal Hospital to receive treatment for his injuries, Ms Butt said. In a

victim impact statement read out in court, the victim said: "This has made me feel scared about working as a doorman in the future and I will need to stay off work for a while." Ms

Butt told the court the incident was captured on CCTV, which was shown in court, and the defendant, of Ashton Street, Easington Colliery, was identified by an officer. Article continues

below The court was told the defendant was arrested by officers after being found underneath the bed of a property in Sunderland. Ms Butt said during his arrest the defendant assaulted the

emergency workers and made threats. Ms Butt said he lashed out during arrested and kicked the officers, and was head butting the police van cage. Calum McNicholas, defending, told the court

Facey was a "trusted and enhanced prisoner in full time employment and full time education." Mr McNicholas said he'd obtained a number of certificates targeting areas that

year extended licence. On sentencing Recorder Harry Vann said: "You attacked [the victim] from behind, striking the back of his neck with a bottle which caused a serious laceration. You

then continued to threaten [the victim] for a few seconds before making your escape. "The attack was apparently in revenge because [the victim] had removed you from the previous bar

you had visited. [The victim] suffered a deep laceration below his right ear, he is scarred and is also scared to work again as a doorman. "When you were arrested you assaulted all

three of them, resisted arrest and threatened their property and family. No police officer should go to work with the expectation of being assaulted." Article continues below Facey

pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and three counts of assaulting an emergency worker. He was sentenced to four years imprisonment and must serve a one year extended licence.
