May 2025 Lidl has explained the best times to shop at supermarkets this weekend - amid the Bank Holiday. Lidl, which is rivalled by Aldi and Morrisons as well as Asda, Sainsbury's and


Tesco, will be shaking up its opening times for the three-day weekend. Lidl expects Friday to be the "busiest" day, with shoppers advised to shop before 10am or after 6pm. Stores


will open from 7am on Friday, and Saturday, with closures at 10pm. Lidl stores will open from 10am to 4pm, or 11am to 5pm, on Sunday, while Bank Holiday hours return to normality - 7am to


10pm. The latest data from retail analysts Kantar showed that grocery inflation rose to 3.8% in the four weeks to April 20, up from 3.5% in the previous month and the highest since the four

grocers have been sharpening their pricing strategies to stay competitive in the fight for footfall. They’ve invested in price cuts which were the main driver of promotional growth. Article


continues below “Often linked to loyalty cards, spending on these deals grew by £347 million. At Tesco and Sainsbury’s, nearly 20% of items sold are on a price match, and they end up in


almost two thirds of baskets.” Lidl and Aldi continued to make solid gains, with sales growth of 10.1% and 5.9% and market shares of 8% and 11% respectively. And Lidl has announced plans to


invest half a billion pounds in its expansion, as the discounter moves forward with plans to open more than 40 new stores across the country this financial year. Article continues below As

hundreds of potential locations for new stores – including high streets, retail parks, and mixed-use town centre sites. The updated list features locations across England, Scotland and Wales


– from Newton Mearns to Dawlish, and Builth Wells to Aylsham as well as the London Borough of Barnet – reflecting Lidl’s accelerated expansion plans to meet growing customer demand.
