FROM THE RONALD MCDONALD BENCHES TO THAT TIME THEY HAD PIZZA ON THE MENU, WHO DOESN'T HAVE CHILDHOOD MEMORIES AT MCDONALD'S? CATHERINE SWAN and LEE GRIMSDITCH 15:48, 13 May 2022

McDonald’s first arrived in the UK in 1974 - and almost 50 years on, its popularity shows no sign of waning. The fast food chain recently announced the addition of seven new items to its

menu, and the news has left foodies feeling nostalgic about the dishes that used to be available at McDonald’s in the eighties and nineties - as well as some things about the restaurant that

used to look very different. According to Manchester Evening News, some of the most vivid memories of McDonald’s for the grown-ups of today involve squeaky polystyrene burger boxes, ash

trays on the table, and seeing mascot Ronald McDonald and friends all over the place. But that’s not all - here are five of the most memorable things about McDonald’s in decades gone by.

READ MORE: GREGGS AXE MENU ITEM AS FANS DEMAND IT BE BROUGHT BACK THE CLASSIC MCDONALD’S MENU - WITH INCREDIBLE PRICES Article continues below A typical McDonald’s menu in the 1980s featured

classics like the Big Mac, French fries, milkshakes and apple pies - but it’s the staggeringly cheap prices that date this menu. Big Macs were just 89p or 77p to take away, while you could

nab a drink and fries to sit in for a grand total of 48p. RONALD MCDONALD BENCHES Who doesn’t remember the famous benches where you could cosy up to Ronald McDonald himself? Kids could have

their picture taken with a statue of the (slightly sinister-looking) fast food mascot posing next to them, dressed in his signature yellow and red striped outfit. CLASSIC MCDONALD’S UNIFORMS

Before the age of polo shirts and baseball caps, McDonald’s employees of the 1980s wore a very different uniform. The smart striped shirts, ties and pointed hats gave the restaurants those

classic American diner vibes. AMAZING HAPPY MEAL TOYS Happy Meals are still a popular kids order today - but they were only introduced to the UK in 1986, making the toys an exciting novelty

in the late 80s and 90s. The prizes that could be found at the bottom of the iconic cardboard box with the M-shaped handles were so sought after that they have become pricey collector’s

items decades on. MCDONALD’S PIZZA Article continues below This one may not be so much of a memorable menu item - for the kids of today it just sounds wrong to put the words ‘McDonald’s’ and

‘pizza’ together. But the fast food chain did actually try selling pizzas in the mid-90s, dishing up three classic flavours. But pizza lovers shouldn’t hold their breath - McDonald’s have

told customers that it won’t be making it back on the menu any time soon. _WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER ABOUT MCDONALD'S WHEN YOU WERE YOUNGER? LET US KNOW IN THE COMMENTS._ READ MORE: M&S
