A HOME INSURANCE EXPERT HAS ISSUED SEVEN STEPS UK TOURISTS SHOULD FOLLOW TO ENSURE YOUR HOME INSURANCE IS VALID, AND YOUR HOUSEHOLD IS SAFE, WHILE AWAY ON HOLIDAY 13:12, 20 May 2025 A home
insurance expert has urged UK tourists to follow seven steps to keeping their home secure while on holiday. Specialists at Forum Insurance have warned homeowners over the risks of not
properly protecting your property - and the serious issues which can be caused by this. Niraj Mamtora, director and home Insurance expert at Forum Insurance revealed small actions you may
not realise you are doing can compromise the validity of your home insurance, for example, publicising you are away from home with snaps or selfies while abroad. Posting a picture online may
seem harmless, but households need to be aware this can make it easier for criminals to observe you are away and break into your residence, while you may be thousands of miles away.
However, the authority on insurance has compiled a list of guidelines to follow to avoid causing you any stress while you are on your getaway. 1. REVIEW YOUR HOME INSURANCE POLICY Mr Mamtora
has urged households to check for clauses such as “unforced entry” or “reasonable care” in the policy, which may be affected by social media posts published while abroad. He added if you
are unsure about the exact terms of your policy, it is important to call your provider to clarify what constitutes as negligence. 2. GOOGLE YOUR ADDRESS The director advises doing a quick
Google search of your home to see if any publicly available pictures reveal weak points in the security of your building. He advised asking for the removal of these images, if anything as
such stands out to you. 3. POST ONLY AFTER RETURNING The insurance expert has advised you should only share your holiday photos after you have returned home, adding captions to the post
which includes sayings such as “Back safe!” to deter any burglars who may be monitoring social media uploads. 4. REJECT UNKNOWN FRIEND REQUESTS An important rule homeowners are being advised
to follow is to monitor who you have on your social media accounts. Be careful of any accounts made by criminals posing to be trusted friends, as the insurance firm has said this is a trick
which is often used to gain access to your timeline, and only accept request from those you know and can rely on. 5. TIGHTEN YOUR PRIVACY SETTINGS By keeping your privacy settings extra
tight, it can help protect you and your home. Mr Mamtora has advised you should set your profile to private and restrict posts to close friends or family. To be even more cautious, revising
your friends list every month can be handy to keep up with any unknown followers which may have sneaked in. 6. INVEST IN HOME SECURITY Forum Insurance has encouraged households to Install
BS3621-approved locks, smart cameras, and motion-activated lights to meet insurer requirements. Other devices such as smart plugs to turn lights on and off to mimic activity while you are
not home can also be handy. 7. ASK A TRUSTED INDIVIDUAL FOR HELP The expert has recommended asking a trusted neighbour, friend or family member to remove any post which may be piling up
while you are enjoying your holiday, as well as parking a car every so often on your drive to suggest someone is at home. Article continues below An additional tip is If you need your bins
taking out and bringing back in while you are away, this may also be a task to politely ask your neighbour or trusted friend or family member to help you with so your bin is not sitting
outside your house the entire getaway.
