ASTON VILLA SOLD DOUGLAS LUIZ TO JUVENTUS FOR £42M LAST SUMMER 10:31, 30 May 2025Updated 11:09, 30 May 2025 Douglas Luiz’s failed transfer to Juventus has contributed to the imminent

departure of Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian giants are set to part ways with Giuntoli, who has paid the price for poor

recruitment. Luiz’s move to Juventus has not gone to plan after he signed in a £42 million deal from Aston Villa, while Enzo Barrenechea and Samuel Iling-Junior went the other way in a

separate transaction. Giuntoli also signed Teun Koopmeiners and Nico Gonzalez, who haven’t justified their price tags, while the appointment of Thiago Motta was also seen as a mistake. Luiz

played a key role in Villa’s rise under Emery and enjoyed a sensational 2023/24 campaign, scoring nine Premier League goals and recording 20 goal contributions across all competitions. But

the Brazilian was identified as a sellable asset by Villa as they scrambled to raise funds before the June 30 accounting deadline. Article continues below This season, however, has been a

nightmare for Luiz, having started only three Serie A games for the Old Lady. Across the 26 appearances he made in all competitions, Luiz failed to score or assist. He has also struggled

with injuries since moving to Italy and has been criticised by Juve supporters for his slow start to life in Turin. Speaking on his Twitch channel earlier this month, Luiz admitted he was

missing playing for Villa. “I miss Villa, guys,” he said. “I miss playing in Villa Park. I miss everything. Always in my heart.” But a few days later, Luiz took to Instagram to clarify what

he meant, making it clear he was not thinking of returning to the club this summer. “When I spoke about Aston Villa I was only referring to the affection for a place where I grew up as a man

and a footballer, not the desire to return,” he explained. Article continues below “You must not confuse nostalgia with the desire to return. I love Juventus, and I’m totally focused on our

goals.” WOULD YOU TAKE LUIZ BACK AT VILLA? TELL US HERE
