2025 A mum in Greece with her family has described the "absolutely terrifying" events which unfolded, after a second earthquake hit Crete during her holiday. Nicole Arbuckle, 29,

from Scotland was sleeping in her hotel room in Crete, when she was woken up by a 6.2 magnitude at around 6am EST this morning (May 22), forcing her, her husband and two children to retreat

to a higher area of the island. She said there have been lots of mini earthquakes in addition to the larger one already today, describing how distressing the situation is and how all she

Speaking of the experience, Nicole told us: "This one [earthquake] was worse than last time, my son was upset and scared. "We just woke up to everything shaking, then I told the

kids to put your shoes on and we went to a higher point of the hotel." Article continues below The tourist continued, explaining how the 'quake was around 10 seconds long - if not

longer - and claimed scarily only 36 miles away from where her family were staying. She added: "We were all very shakes as this has happened twice now since we have been on holiday, and

it's not so relaxing now and we just want to get home." The family have confirmed they are safe currently, but added how the situation had caused a great deal of panic. In a

TikTok video posted by the mum, she said how "very scary," the earthquake had caused her and her family to be "terrified." She continued: "We're worried about a

tsunami. "This is my worst nightmare." News of the magnitude 6.2 earthquake follows a 'quake which was felt as far away as Egypt only last week (May 14). READ MORE: UK

TOURISTS IN GREECE ISSUED TSUNAMI WARNING AFTER MAGNITUDE 6.0 EARTHQUAKE Nicole said how she thought the earthquake on May 14 would be the "last time," it would happen, adding she

had visited Crete many times but "never experienced" anything like it during her previous visits. The last earthquake was recorded as a 6.0 earthquake, and was followed by a

tsunami warning, causing distress across the island. There was no damage reported by authorities during the last incident, but some local news outlets have said there have been landslides on

the provincial road network and some damage to certain buildings in Heraklion, according to the Independent. As the situation is still unfolding, the Greek fire brigade is said to be on

high alert across Greece, with the major of area Agios Nikolaos, Manolis Menegakis, said the earthquake was strong but said there were no reports of significant damage in the region so far,

telling Mega Tv, “We are vigilant." Article continues below Authorities are also urging tourists and residents to "move away from the coast," amidst the ongoing aftermath of
