number of witnesses had been asked to give evidence at the hearing into the 19-year-old's death. But many had not been traced despite extensive efforts, the inquest was told. Jay, from
Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, was on holiday in Tenerife when he was reported missing last summer. He was with friends at the NRG music festival, at the Papagayo nightclub, in the resort of
Playa de las Americas, on June 16 last year. It was understood he went to an apartment with others he met on holiday in the early hours of the next day. Article continues below But he was

Spanish Civil Guard found his his body in a steep and inaccessible area near the village of Masca on July 15, 2024. Preston Coroner’s Court heard a number of friends and others who were on
holiday with Jay had not given evidence to the inquest. Extensive efforts, including summonses, were issued for several witnesses who were in contact with Jay before he disappeared. But a
number failed to respond and would not be giving evidence, the court heard today, Wednesday, May 21. They included Jay's friends who were with him at the music festival - Bradley
Geoghegan, Brandon Hodgson and Lucy Law. The two men who were staying at an Airbnb Jay went back to before he disappeared had also not been traced. The hearing was scheduled to last one day
but was adjourned at the request of Jay's family. His mum Debbie Duncan broke down in tears at the inquest, telling the court she still had questions that needed answers. Ms Duncan
said: "How can we ever get any understanding? "There’s things we want to question. "We want these people to be sat in front of us, because our son went on holiday and didn’t
come back, so there’s questions we need to ask." Coroner Dr James Adeley adjourned proceedings for a short period. The inquest earlier heard traces of drugs, including cocaine, ketamine
and ecstasy, were found in Jay's body. Article continues below Pathologists concluded his death from head injuries was consistent with a fall. The hearing continues.
