Mouth and Wednesday Netflix will drop support for older Fire TV devices tomorrow (June 3, 2025).

Netflix has decided to drop support for the first-generation of Fire TV devices sold by Amazon. It affects the original Fire TV set-top box, launched back in 2014, the first-generation Fire

TV Stick, or the Fire TV Stick with Alexa voice remote that arrived in 2016.

‌ You can check by going to Settings > My Fire TV > About on your device. "Netflix will be discontinuing support for some first-generation Fire TV devices, which were introduced more than 10

years ago. Netflix remains available on all other Fire TV devices," Netflix warned.

It’s not exactly clear why Netflix is ending support for old Fire TV devices, but it could have something to do with Netflix using newer standards - such as the AV1 codec - to stream with

better picture quality, particularly for customers who are on the Premium plan.

Article continues below If you still own a first-generation Fire TV device, you can’t retrofit it to support modern video codecs. You’ll want to upgrade to one of the newer Fire TV models

with 4K resolution support.

It comes as Stranger Things were left overjoyed this weekend as the release dates for the fifth and final season have been revealed.

Stranger Things 5 will release this fall: four episodes on November 26, three episodes on Christmas, and the finale episode on New Year’s Eve. Each volume releases at 5pm PT.
