SAVING TIPS AND HACKS BY SIGNING UP TO OUR NEWSLETTER The new criteria has sparked alarm among campaigners and some MPs, amid fears it could hit some claimants who desperately rely on the
support in their everyday lives. Article continues below Now mobility expert Daniel Swain has warned the new rules could impact people who suffer with conditions like arthritis, early-stage
dementia and mobility impairments. Mr Swain, from Seacroft Mobility, said: "These changes could have a huge negative impact on individuals with multiple moderate disabilities.
"Many who currently receive support may find themselves ineligible, jeopardising their independence and access to essential aids.” BirminghamLive analysis showed how proposed changes to
the qualifying points system could result in some people who require help to wash, dress and go to the toilet losing their support. People will have to score four points in a single daily
living activity when being assessed. There have been suggestions ministers could rethink the plans amid a backlash from Labour MPs, following a similar climbdown on Winter Fuel Payments for
pensioners. Around 3.66 million people receive PIP and the Government says around 10% could lose their support, though there have been claims the figure could be much higher. Mr Swain added:
"If you’re worried about how the proposed changes to PIP could impact your access to mobility aids or support, there are steps you can take now to prepare and protect your
independence. "Review your current PIP award. Understand how your claim is assessed and where your points come from. Article continues below "Knowing which daily activities you
score in can help you identify if you’re at risk under the new rule. "Get supporting evidence from your medical records and occupational therapy notes, as they can all help to
demonstrate your struggles and how they affect your daily life. "Speak to a disability benefits advisor or a local support charity like Citizens Advice. They can help you through the
reassessment process and prepare your case if the changes are to go ahead."
