Park following the Champions League match with Bayern Munich. Kasim Ali was in a Mitsubishi Shogun that rammed a Volkswagen Golf at the entrance to King Edwards VI School playing fields,

EX-FOOTBALLER JAILED FOR WILD SHOOTING ON BIRMINGHAM STREETS One of them fired a gun at Golf driver Shakil Mahmood and two other occupants who fled the scene. Ali was identified after

leaving a palm print on the Golf, having smashed its windscreen. Article continues below He was initially charged with attempted murder but the prosecution accepted his guilty plea to an

alternative charge of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life as well as possession of a bladed article. Ali, of The Broadway, Perry Barr, was sentenced to eight years and four

months at Birmingham Crown Court yesterday, Tuesday, June 3. Villa had beaten Bayern Munich 1-0 in the Champions League on October 2 last year. Andrew Baker, prosecuting, said: "The

Aston area was very busy as fans left the ground and returned to their cars parked nearby. "A number of cars had parked on the ground of King Edwards School used as match day parking.

"Around 10.40pm the victim Shakil Mahmood was driving a VW Golf along Trinity Road. "He was being followed by two cars driven in convoy, a Mitsubishi Shogun and a Jaguar. "He

turned right on to the entrance of the school car park and stopped as other cars were leaving the area. "After a few seconds the Shogun following him rammed into the driver's side

and a violent incident took place." Dashcam footage which captured the incident was played to the court. Mr Baker continued: "Five men got out of the Shogun including the

defendant. "The first man had his face obscured and was armed with a gun. "Three occupants of the Golf fled up Trinity Road. "The gunman fired towards them and footage shows

sparks come from the passenger side door. "The defendant was next in line after the gunman. He wore a balaclava and was armed with a Rambo knife. "He used that knife to shatter the

windscreen of the Golf. "He placed his hand on the bonnet. He wasn't wearing gloves and his palm print was recovered from the scene. That's how he was identified." Kasim

ran from the scene down Trinity Road and threw his knife over a wall where it was retrieved by police. He flew to Barcelona but was arrested a few days later on his return to Birmingham

Airport. Kasim was involved in the incident despite being on a community order for driving while disqualified. Balbir Singh, defending, told the court Kasim had neurodevelopmental issues,

and said: "This behaviour on this particular evening can be said to be out of character. "When he's given structure and supervision he's able to work quite well. "He

needs assistance, he can't do it all himself. But he is capable of working quite hard." Article continues below The barrister described Kasim as 'naive' and

'gullible', adding: "He appears to be a good and honest individual and someone found to be polite and respectful and getting on well with others save for when in the company

of relatives who misbehave. He can easily be misled."
