NEW PARKING LAWS COULD HAVE A MAJOR IMPACT ON MILLIONS OF BRITS 09:00, 04 Jun 2025 Drivers could soon face fines for parking outside their own homes in specific situations. The warning comes
as the Government could be set to introduce a nationwide ban on pavement parking. That would make parking on pavements outside homes illegal, in a change which could create problems on
cramped and narrow residential streets. READ MORE: MIDLANDS TOWN NAMED SECOND 'MOST UNDERRATED' IN COUNTRY WITH CHEAP HOMES AND GREAT TRANSPORT LINKS GET ALL THE LATEST MOTORING

Article continues below It follows a campaign to improve safety for pedestrians, particularly those with disabilities and parents with prams who may find it difficult to pass vehicles
propped up on pavements. But there have been questions about how a full nationwide ban would be effectively policed and whether residential backstreets would be regularly checked, amid
concerns it will place more strain on cash-strapped local authorities. Nonetheless it would mean homeowners taking a risk if they parked on the pavement. Other commonly-known rules around
parking outside homes already exist, such as blocking other driveways. Pavement parking is already banned in London. Transport minister Lilian Greenwood suggested new parking laws were on
the way. She was "determined to tackle pavement parking", which she labelled a "nuisance". Article continues below In response to Labour MP Liz Twist, she said: "The
previous Government failed to act and, like her, I am determined to tackle pavement parking. "That is why I have met representatives of Guide Dogs, Living Streets, Sustrans and
Transport for All to discuss this very important issue, which is absolutely fundamental to the safety and accessibility of our public realm. "I can assure my honourable friend that I am
on the case, and I look forward to setting out the way forward very soon."
