Nestle USA recalled more than 400,000 coffee mugs branded with the Starbucks logo because the mugs can overheat or break if microwaved, posing a burn or laceration hazard, the Consumer
Product Safety Commission announced March 21.
There have been 12 incidents involving the mugs overheating or breaking, resulting in 10 injuries, including nine severe burns or blisters and one cut finger, according to CPSC. One incident
required medical attention.
The recalled ceramic mugs have a metallic coating and were sold in 11- and 16-ounce sizes in gift sets during the 2023 holiday season. The mugs were included in the following gift
sets:
Starbucks Holiday Gift Set With 2 MugsStarbucks Classic Hot Cocoa and MugStarbucks Peppermint and Classic Hot Cocoas and MugStarbucks Holiday Blend Coffee and MugThe recalled products were sold nationwide at Target and Walmart, both online and in stores, from November 2023 to January 2024. They were also available at Nexcom military retail outlets.
Anyone who has one of the recalled mugs should stop using it. It can be returned to the store where it was purchased for a cash refund or gift card. Alternatively, Nestle can issue a refund
to customers who visit its Contact Us page. Select “Leave Us a Message,” choose “Complaint,” then “Recall” from the drop-down menu. Attach a photo of the mug or gift set identifier code,
fill out the necessary form and submit. Nestle will issue a refund by check.
