Samsung has recalled over a million electric stoves because the front-mounted knobs can be accidentally turned on by humans or pets, posing a fire risk, according to an announcement from
the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Since 2013, the company has received over 300 reports of its electric slide-in ranges turning on unintentionally. This has led to approximately
250 fires, causing “extensive” property damage in at least 18 cases, the agency says. The incidents have resulted in about 40 injuries, including eight that required medical attention.
Seven fires resulted in the death of pets. The recalled stoves were sold at major retailers like Best Buy, Costco, Home Depot, Lowe’s and other appliance stores nationwide, as well as
online at Samsung.com.They were sold between May 2013 and August 2024 for prices ranging from $1,250 to $3,050. To determine if your stove was recalled, locate the model number on the upper
left corner of the oven door or inside the storage at the bottom of the oven. The recalled model numbers are: NE58K9430SS/AA, NE58N9430SG/AA, NE58R9431SG/AA, NE58R9431SS/AA, NE58R9431ST/AA,

and NE63T8751SS/AA. ADVICE TO CONSUMERS The safety agency says to never place or store anything on top of your range. “Fires can occur when items are left on the top surface of any range
that is accidentally activated or left on,” the agency says in a statement. Anyone who has one of the recalled stoves should contact Samsung to receive a free set of knob locks or covers
compatible with their specific model. Until the replacement knobs are received, the CPSC advises consumers to keep children and pets away from the stoves and make sure the knobs are off
before leaving your house or going to bed. If you have a Wi-Fi-enabled stove, enable “Cooktop On” notifications in the Samsung SmartThings app to receive alerts when a burner has been
turned on. To request free knob locks, call Samsung at 833-775-0120, email [email protected] or visit samsung.com/us/support/range-knob-kit for more information.
