AARP Foundation has announced that it is honoring 190 Experience Corps tutors with the 2024 President's Volunteer Service Award. Established in 2003 by President George W. Bush’s
Council on Service and Civic Participation, the nation’s top civil award is bestowed annually by the president of the United States. It is led by AmeriCorps and managed in partnership with
Points of Light. The Foundation became an official sponsor of the award in 2023. AARP Foundation’s 2024 honorees are Experience Corps volunteers from six states who work with seven
community-based program partners. In total, awardees contributed more than 30,000 hours during the 2022–2023 school year — an amount worth nearly $1 million in tutoring services, based on
the national value of a volunteer service hour. “Experience Corps volunteers represent the best of us, showing up week after week to help children become better readers and put them on a
path for a better life,” said AARP Foundation President Claire Casey. “And I know from talking to our volunteers that they get back as much as they give.” The announcement coincides with
National Volunteer Month, an annual event. Every April, governments, nonprofits, and companies across the country celebrate the difference that volunteers make in their communities; share
stories of those who are doing good; and inspire more people to get involved. To join the celebration, follow AARP Foundation on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and LinkedIn. You can also
add to the conversation by sharing pictures and stories on X using #NVM, #NVW and #PVSA. Read the full list of 2024 awardees below. LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD For individuals who have
