British airways flight re-routes when faced with harsh winds

Strong winds shook and wobbled flight BA493 as it prepared for landing, and a local from below got it all on film. The aircraft originally planned to set off from London Heathrow airport at

8:25am and land in Gibraltar, Britain, just before lunchtime. However, the plane had to change its course after the not-so-smooth sailing. Instead, the flight made its landing in Malaga, 

Southern Spain at 12.41pm. The video footage of the turbulence was taken by resident Richard Whalley. Mr Whalley said he works at the local port, which was closed due to the high winds:

"...was just in my office [and] heard loud engine noises so looked out and saw the plane doing funny maneuvers." The flight A320 allegedly descended from an altitude of 40,000

feet, to a low range of 300 feet before the pilots decided to re-route its course. However, British Airways said passengers made their way off the flight as normal, and group transport was

arranged for them to make their way to their desired landing point in Gibraltar. The company apologised for any inconvenience faced by their customers, and assured that there was no risk to

the passengers at any stage during the flight. "The safety of our customers and crew is always our number one priority," said British Airways in a statement. President of the

International Bureau of Aviation, Phil Seymour, has also assured the public of the plane's durable nature: "There have been a couple of incidents, but generally speaking,

they're safer than most aircrafts out there now. The A320 has a fantastic safety record," he said.
